“Education is the foundation to achieve changes in our lives!”
Jesús, an 18-year-old university student, reflects about how being member of the NPH family has an impact on his life, his studies and his future. July 3, 2018 - Bolivia
"I am proud to study Commercial Engineering at University Gabriel René Moreno."
"Currently I am in my second year of university, studying Commercial Engineering. I am studying at the public university Gabriel René Moreno, which is one of the biggest universities of South America. I am proud to study at this university. My goals are to finish my studies with good grades, to get a good job, and live a happy life with a family.
At the moment, I am eager to make my university a better place. In the afternoons, I assist in the administration department of my university, where I support our new students. I am working on forming groups for social assistance. Helping each other and being there for each other are important values for me, which I was taught all my life at my NPH home. Furthermore, I would love to engage in more tourism activities in the city of Santa Cruz, where I live now. Maybe even with the help of other youngsters of NPH Bolivia?
Thanks to my NPH family, I received a very good education. Here I have been taught everything, from eating properly, to studying, to working, to playing sports, to learning important values, and so much more. I think they prepared me well, so that I can deal with everything - good or bad - that will happen to me.
This year, I went to an NPH workshop in El Salvador. I loved the workshop. Firstly, because I got to know another NPH home, and secondly because I learned a lot more about myself, my strengths and my weaknesses. Now I feel more confident in myself. “What the mind wants, the body obeys”.
Sometimes I think about how my life would be if I would not have joined the NPH family. I am sure it would have gone a wrong course: Maybe I would not even have finished high school, maybe I would have been a father at a young age, or worse, maybe I would have been linked with drugs.
So it is really important for me to mention that I am grateful to NPH for having the doors open to children like me; to all the sponsors and people who support NPH; to our caretakers and workers; and to all the volunteers who support our home. But I am most grateful for God who led Father William B. Wasson to form this family for all of us."
