Art Therapist (Sala Bien Estar) from Dec 31, 2017 - 1 job for 13 months in NPH Bolivia.

This volunteer will coordinate our “Sala de Bien Estar”, which we would like to see include art therapy as well as music, drama, dance, and other art expression. This volunteer must be fluent in Spanish, very creative, and ready to work with troubled children in need of individual attention. It is not a requirement that the volunteer hold a degree in Art Therapy, but some sort of formation and/or training in early childhood development, at-risk children and teaching is necessary. Prior experience working with children with learning or behavioral challenges is preferred. We need a strong, self-motivated, energetic individual to fill this position.

The role of the art therapist is to identify and provide therapy for children with psychological problems and handicaps. The therapist works individually and in groups with children and teenagers.

Therapy is based on several techniques stemming from psychology, developmental psychology, neuropsychology, physiology, etc. The art therapist uses the characteristics and possibilities of art as a way to communicate and express thoughts and feelings. Art therapy is not like art class, where the result is an art project. The art therapist helps children to recognize, guide, survive, reduce or accept emotional, social, cognitive and psychomotorical problems.
